DTI 7 staff temporaily relocates to NERBAC
Due to fire which broke out last week and
affected certain parts of the building where the agency is located, the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Central Visayas (DTI 7) has decided to relocate to ensure uninterrupted service for its
clients.
The DTI 7 staff will be temporarily housed at
the National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (NERBAC) along
Lapulapu Street, Cebu City until April 12, 2013.
NERBAC phone numbers in Cebu are: 412-1945 / 44 and 255-6971.

DTI & GIZ launch PROGED project on March 13
The Department of Trade and Industry Regional
Operations and Development Group (DTI RODG) and the German technical
agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
will formally launch a national project that encourages
environment friendly and inclusive strategies for economic development
called Promotion of Green Economic Development or ProGED.
ProGED is piloted in the tourism value chain of Bohol and Cebu, with the aim to upscale outside the pilot areas and sector starting in the second year.
There will be a press conference on March 13, 2013, 11:00 in the morning, at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu City to highlight the results of the ProGED Start Up Workshop/ Event.
The Start Up Workshop/Event is part of a series of activities to commence implementation of the new project. It will be attended by major project stakeholders from the provinces of Bohol and Cebu as well as from the national level.

DTI-USC-LGU Linkage for Packaging Design Development of MSMEs
The Department of Trade
and Industry collaborated with the University of San Carlos- College of
Architecture and Fine Arts (USC-CAFA) and the local government units of Argao
and Carcar City to develop packaging of micro and small enterprises in their
localities.
The activity dubbed as “ DTI-USC-LGU Linkage for Packaging Design Development of MSMEs” were simultaneously held last February 15, 2013 at the Valladolid Gym in Carcar City and at the AVR of Cebu Technological University- Argao Campus.
Advertising students of
USC-CAFA shared their knowledge and skills to create new or to enhance the
existing packaging of products of MSMEs.
The partnership among DTI,
USC-CAFA, and the LGUs of Argao and Carcar City aims to promote the growth of
MSMEs by improving the marketability of their products and increasing their
overall sales performance.
In Argao, the
beneficiaries of the activity included producers of torta, tableya, bahalina,
soaps, and handicraft. On the other hand, assisted clients in Carcar included
manufacturers of chicharon, ampao, bocarillo, banana chips, and footwear.
Mayor Edsel Galeos of
Argao and Mayor Nicepuro Apura of Carcar City were all-out in their support for
the MSMEs and the students.

A public consultation was held for the proposed
amendments to the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 4566
or the Contractor’s License Law on February 7, 2013 at the Parklane Hotel in
Cebu City.
The activity was meant not only to offer a venue for
government to discuss with the public the amendments on the law but also to provide
more transparency and integrity on government activities.
The consultation was conducted by the Philippine
Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) in cooperation with the Department of
Trade and Industry.
The Contractor’s License Law (R.A. 4566) aims to promote, for the benefit of the public and private sectors and for the national interest, the orderly growth of the contracting sector and the upgrading of construction capability.
R .A. 4566 as amended by P.D. No.1746 provides that no contractor (including sub- contractor and specialty contractor) shall engage in the business of contracting without first having secured a PCAB license to conduct business.

DTI Cebu holds Sinulog Fiesta OTOP Fair 2013
The Department of Trade and Industry Cebu
(DTI-Cebu), in partnership with the Cebu City Government and the Sinulog
Foundation, Inc., held the formal opening of the Sinulog Fiesta OTOP Fair on
January 11, 2013 at the Atrium of SM City Cebu.
This trade event features products of more
than 50 producers ranging from native delicacies, processed foods, novelty
items, fashion accessories, gifts, toys and housewares.
Special guests during the Sinulog Fiesta OTOP
Fair formal opening and ribbon cutting ceremony include Sinulog Foundation
Executive Director Ricky Ballesteros, DTI 7 Regional Director Asteria
Caberte and Cebu GTH Foundation President Pedro Delantar.
The Sinulog Fiesta OTOP Fair will run for
twelve (12) days, from January 11 to 22, 2013.
The OTOP
or the One Town, One Product Philippines is a priority program of the
government to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs. Through OTOP, local
chief executives of each city and municipality take the lead in identifying,
developing, and promoting a specific product or service, which has a
competitive advantage.
OTOP-Philippines supports micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to manufacture, offer, and market distinctive products or services through the use of indigenous raw materials and local skills and talents.

The OTOP program has brought out the best that each municipality in Cebu can offer to the market.
